Digital photography is considered as an art. You can take shots of an object in so many ways that you can imagine. A lot of digital photography techniques can be used and different results will be produced. It really depends on how you would like to showcase that object and how you want it to be interpreted. But of course, there are the basic digital photography techniques that you can use to make your photographs look more artistic than normal. These techniques will help you improve your photography skills and will probably take your photos to a higher level. Let’s go over a couple of different digital photography techniques below.
1. There is what we call the rule of thirds just like in a tic-tac-toe game. When you look at your view finder, think of that screen as a tic-tac-toe board. Divide the screen into three rows with three columns. Once you get the idea, make sure that the object of the image is at the intersection of those lines. It can be a person, a building, a home, or a beautiful waterfalls or mountain. By doing so, you break up the symmetry. Thus, a more tasteful photo, more like an art work, is the result.
2. Always keep in mind that you can edit your photos later on. So if you don’t get the perfect shot and you need to cut out something, then try cropping. You can crop the photo to make the overall look better. There are several photo-editing software out there so you just have to pick what you are more familiar with.
3. Picking the right background is also one of the effective digital photography techniques you can make use of. If you want all the focus to be given to your subject, then blurring the background will. If your subject has too many busy patterns, then you’ll need a simple or plain background. Now if circumstances won’t allow you to clear the background, then adjusting the depth of field allows the shot to focus on the objects that are closer to you. Thus, the background is blurred. On the contrary, if your subject is too simple, then set them against a background with some patterns or details to balance out the photo. However, make sure that the background isn’t too busy that it takes away the attention from your subject.
4. Another great digital photography technique you can use is implying the distance or the dimension in your photo. Let’s say that you want to take a photo of a castle at the far side of a mountain. You can take a photo of it as is but it will appear flat on the picture. But if you take a photo of it and include some objects that are nearer to you, then you are implying that the castle you took is far from you. It gives that sense of distance.
