the last posting, supposedly from 'Zoriah', says it all..it's either a scam or worse, it's from the little heard of 'Zoriah' himself. My suspicion is that this whole thing is a big joke, there are 9 serious practitioners on this list, and one empty egotistical fool. Anyone that asks 'who the f*** is Robert Frank anyway' needs to gain a little humility. Possibly a decent education, you might then be taken seriously. This is why I suspect this whole thing to be a big joke. Zoriah can't really be THAT stupid, can he? Very funny though.

Why are you all such haters? I've done better work than anyone on this list, I'm offended to be just on the 6th place, I should be in the top 3! who the fuck is Robert Frank anyway? this is a list of dead or washed up would-be photographers, none of them have skills even close to mine!

ok this list is a bit old, but i just stumbled onto it and i feel i have to comment...
where is David Burnett in this list? Burnett has been ahead of the curve for 40 years now. He still consistently affects the visual style and limits of what is considered photojournalism.

and Tom Stoddart? if you compare his images to those of James Natchwey you'll find that in many instances they were standing next to each other.

Carol Guzy? as far as American newspaper photographers go, she is a legend.

i have no doubt that Zoriah will leave a long and lasting legacy packed with compelling images and lots of controversy, but i personally don't think he has the qualifications to make the top 10 of all time. Zoriah has managed to create a unique way of operating as a photojournalist and documentary photographer, but he doesn't get much work published, compared to a lot of his contemporaries. And in getting the work in front of the people is a big part of photojournalism. You have to be educating the masses. you have to be working as their eyes. Just being there and not getting the images infront of the public makes you a bit of a tourist, with your snapshots tucked away in shoeboxes or photo albums.
I do believe time will be kind to Zoriah and his work will age well and he will improve on all levels, to be recognized with the greats of our decade. he constantly proves to be unafraid of controversy and this i think is a sure sign that he will influence legions of future photojournalists.

like all lists that aren't statistical, they are bound to be primarily about opinions. i like everyone on your list and believe them to all be important to our profession in their own way. i would like to share 10 contemporary photojournalists that i recommend you spend some time examining the work of. i DO NOT think these are the best photojournalists of all time, but they are among the upper ranks of the contemporary crew of shooters and they are all influential in their own way.

Brent Stirton
Teru Kuwayama
Stephanie Sinclair
Andrea Bruce
Ben Lowy
Shaul Schwarz
Per-Anders Pettersson
Melissa Lyttle
Ami Vitale
Matt Eich

i'd love to know your thoughts and i encourage you all to share the work of other photojournalists that i may not know of.

cheers

Zoriahhh in top ten???
Man you guys gotta be kidding me! SO so so many WAY before that sorry-excuse-for-a-photog! When it comes to the work and the ethics, 'M. are there any landmines?' couldn't even be in top 100 -for real.

It's amazing to me how this snapper markets his way around, when his work is so weak and un-emotional (not to mention the way he behaves on the field!)!!

u HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME......

I'M CURIOUS about the writer/blog master here.....ok, so Zoriah has made some nice work, but how deep is your familiarity with the practice, with the history of journalism, especially around the world, and he warrants 6....all time??>...good god, u must be like 19 years old, right??

with regard to that ‘top 10 photojournalist list of all time’…that has to be the best joke i’ve ever read…. i mean,

let’s see, just a quick sampling, off the top of my head, of the photographers/journalists (going by your use of the work to describe your top 10) that you’ve overlooked….all of which have produced a substantial, iconic and important body of work over the long haul of their lives….Zoriah is still very much a young young photographer and it is with dismay that I can only imagine how he ended up on your list….

i am wondering: that guy has to be either a former student or….

on of the guys from the Yes Men team :)))

http://theyesmenfixtheworld.com/

…

i mean, the dude has a serious awareness problem when it comes to photography (the dude posting the list), just a quick rift of names, in no particular order, before i head out….:

Philip Jones Grifiths, Larry Burrows, Robert Adams, Alvarez Bravo, Callahan, Suskind,
Blossfeldt, Dosineau, Eggleston, Arbus, Friedlander, Winogrand, Evans, Hine, Kertesz, Koudelka, Bourke-white, Meyerowitz, Model, Newman, Gordon Parks, Atget, Lartique, Levitt, Meatyard, White, Brant, Vink, Burri, Cunningham, Shore, Rodchenko, Salgado, Sommer, Strand, Weston, Talbot, Elliot, Abbas, Moriyama, Bar-Am, Towell, Pinkhassov, Peress, Goldberg, Arnold, McCurry, Davidson, Morath, Meiselas, Webb, Erwitt, Penn, Freed, Mary Ellen Marks, Glinn, Gilden, Depardon, Seymour, Haviv, Morris, Kratochvill, Stanmeyer, Greene, edie adams, bollen,

and i havent even listened the important work done by russian photographers, japanese photographers, african photographers, german photographers and south/central american photographers….

and from our generation:

Kuwayama, moises saman, blenkisop, Chris Anderson, my friend Sergie Maximishin, Pellegrin, Subotzky, Bendiksen, Chang, Majoli, Parke, Boulat, Bleasdale, Berman, lowenstein, bonet, kozyrev, and on and on and on and on……

i can only imagine that this is a funny, very funny joke…..

Hi

You really should head up that list with "In my opinion" Yes the snappers on that list are very good and two of them are pals. But there are so many more. Why even bother with a list.
